Mahalo Idol Six Finalists -TheFemGeek’s Choice

  • I’m breaking from form here and have decided to do a non-video post. But don’t fret there will be videos.

For those of you who haven’t heard or read or seen, Veronica Belmont is no longer hosting Mahalo Daily. So Jason Calacanis founder of Mahalo.com has decided to have a American Idol like competition, Mahalo Idol, to see who will be the new host. A hundred contestants tried out. Then, in a The Bachelor format called The Bachelon, it was broken down to 12 finalist. And now it’s at the next step where it has come down to six finalist.

Here are the six Mahalo Idol finalists looking for the chance to be the main host of Mahalo Daily. All the ladies did a good job but it was one that I thought was different than the norm. My choice has been for Sarah Atwood.

Reason: She is real, natural, has the geeky cuteness, and she knows her craft.

I am looking for a change from the usual that I see on television. I want a host that will be part of the show and who will present the guest and subject matter well enough for me to think that the show is worthy to come back and see. It was an ability that Veronica Belmont was able to do successfully and one that I think Sarah will succeed at doing while putting her own flare to it.

Here are my choices in the order I like them, by host and not just subject matter:

    Sarah
    Need I say more

    Andrea_Rene
I like her enthusiasm but I think it’s more about showing who SHE is.

    Nadine
I think she would be good but I sometimes felt she was bored. Maybe didn’t know what to do while the guest answered her questions

    Michelle
I like her look but I have a hard time believing her smile. Performing for the camera

    Leah
She did a very professional job but I honestly thought it was too professional. She needs to try for the network news

    Kristina
I wanted to like Kristina but I thought she was the most inexperienced one. I love her laugh but she needs to work on her nervousness.

Mountain Dew tries a new do

I had heard about this but it wasn’t until I was reading my feeds and reading the post “Peat Wollaeger Mountain Dew Bottle Project” on Bill Streeter’s website that reminded me of the newly aluminum designed bottles that Mountain Dew was planning to distribute. Mountain Dew calls on twelve young artists to design 12 bottles for their Green Label Art series. On the website for the series the artists will put up videos either explaining their motivation behind their design or just giving us a taste of their creative aura.

Peat Wollaeger is a friend of Bill Streeter (check out Bill’s weekly video blog Lo-Fi Saint Louis to catch up on the music, art, and culture of St. Louie) and Bill helped with the making of Pete’s video for the series. Check out the designs and the videos. Think you can be one of the artist? Well you got until June 30th to show off your stuff. Just click on contest. I’m looking forward to seeing these bottles on the shelf.

    FINALS ARE OVER!!!

Sony DCR-VX2100 Yeah I have been away for a while but only for a short time and I’m back. Plus, I have the summer off to finally get some videos up and to start working on some short scripts. I hope to start entering my scripts into screenplay competitions and also work on actually putting one in production with hopes of getting it in some festivals. So look for a new post to come over the weekend and maybe even a video about…I don’t know, about something because it’s time to get to work.

    Deadline Alert

Hey I thought I should mention this now before the deadline and believe me the deadline is near. One in particular is for the television screenwriting competition Scriptapalooza Television. I find I normally make announcements for competitions that are geared toward the big screen or documentaries, but I rarely talk about television. In lieu of my desire to learn more about writing for cable television and the Internet, I thought it would be appropriate to remind others about this competition. The deadline is April 30th, so you need to get it in right away. I’ll be sure to give plenty of heads up for this one when next year’s announcement are made. Unfortunately I learned of this contest just recently.

Now for this next one you can relax a bit. It’s the 5th Annual American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest and I have not read who is judging but last year the judge was Gus Van Sant (admittedly one of my favorite directors). This I’m giving early because the heading for last years competition is still the headline on the website. But when you read further down the page you’ll see theĀ  announcement for this years deadlines. The contest opens June 1, 2007 and the early deadline is August 1, 2007.

To give you a little history about the contest, it part of the website started by Frances Ford Coppola to invite writers to submit their short stories to his online magazine Zoetrope: All-Story. Many of the writers quickly formed around the website and it’s quick popularity prompt Coppola to create sites for novellas and screenplays. You can read more about it here, American Zoetrope Films.
