Even more encouraging news

In film school you find that there are fans and there are die hard fans of those who are in the “biz”. When I say the “biz” I am talking about film/television/art/music, anything artistic. For the sake of this post I am going to stick to what I encounter in studying my major, Film and Video. Of course there are the obvious idols; Scorsese, Coppola, Tarantino, Spielberg and, obviously, I’m only naming a few here. But, there is one director that whenever someone discusses the work, there are fans who will jump right in and praise their devotion to knowing it, repeating it, and eventually emulating it. Then, there are those who will cock their head and eventually agree to liking the work and at the same time finding themselves empathizing with others who will give in and admit to not even coming close to understanding what they had saw. The director I’m talking about is David Lynch. I am not only talking of Mr. Lynch in this post but I also a fan. Admittedly, I am more often at times one of those who finds themselves cocking their head.

There are many fansites and webpages praising Mr. Lynch’s work, so that is not what I am doing here. But I did come across an interesting article about something he said. As a fan I felt that this was encouraging news for those of us who are trying to get our work out to the public in the most affordable and artistic way (i.e the internet). So for all of you who I empathize with who find themselves cocking their head whenever they see a Lynch film because they have no clue as to what’s going on, you may not feel this is newsworthy. But for the rest of us, this may put a smile on our faces when we are shelling out the doe for that awesome digital video camera, mic setup, lighting, and whatever other tools are needed. I wish you could see me now because I am smiling. Really I am.

Here’s the link to the David Lynch article from MTV.

The photo is of my two friends Josh Gibson and Matt Vasiliauskas who had the chance to attend an event where Mr. Lynch was a guest speaker.
