Spring is still two maybe three seasons away but I think it’s around that time to start planning if you’re going to SXSW 2008. For all of you who do not know what the acronyms SXSW stands for, South by Southwest. It is a set of music, interactive, and film festivals and conferences that take place every spring in Austin, Texas. I have always wanted to go for the film conference and festival ever since I started film school at Columbia College Chicago. But after interacting with many of the blogger, podcasters, vloggers, and the media superstars who went last year I am now eager to attend the conference and festival for interactive media. I think it was at this event last year that the doors of Twitter swung wide open and I walked right in.
Click and scroll right over to the SXSW reservation page and start reserving your passes and making those reservations as to where you’ll be crashing. Of course, the earlier you register, the cheaper it will be. There are student passes but I think you have to choose between film or interactive media. I’m greedy I want them both, I may have to go for the gold. My schedules are tentative to school and finances due to a trip to go to Cabo San Lucas with some friends. So, you’re not alone. I need to start trying to arrange plans so I can be there.
I hope the same group that went last year intend to go as well. It looks as if they had a ball. Will I possibly see you there?
I need to get to a film festival sometime. They never happen at the right times :/
hey Ross, the Seattle International Film Festival recently became a year-round event (is that still an “event?”). it isn’t all hype, there is a ton being screened all year long, outside of the fest proper which is still the most dense. the good city gave them something like half the cash for a new, year-round space. there are fewer flashbulbs at SIFF but more films and more viewers, than most fests.
SXSW looks pretty rad. I won’t be there this year but will keep it in my sights. BG

I went last year, and I can’t say enough about how valuable it is to meet people in real space. I’ve made a lot of great friends attending different events over the last year. I hope I’ll be there again next year, and I hope I can spend another week and attend some of the music fest as well.
