My Turn: 8 Random Things

It seems as if Jeff”Zemote” O’Hara has tagged me. This is the 3rd time I have been tagged this year for a internet tag game. All I can say is unlike grammar school I don’t mind being tagged by these guys.

So, I have been asked to write 8 random things about myself. The tough part to this is to tell just enough and not to tell too much and yet be random. Awww, the hell with it. Here are 8 things off the top of my head:

1.) I have been playing the guitar since I was 5 years old. (All kinds)

2,) I went to Israel while in high school through an exchange program.

3.) I have two burn scars from two different incidents in my life.

The first was from when I was 3 or 4. While sitting on a family friend’s lap on his motorcycle, I tried to reach for the handle bars and accidentally slipped and my forearm hit the covering of the motor/engine (whatever you call it) and it burned off a 4 inch length, 1 inch width oval section of skin from my forearm. It healed quite well.

Second was a work injury. I was doing an analysis under a hood and didn’t realize that my lab coat sleeve was touching the tip of a nitric acid bottle. My sleeve soaked up the acid and eventually came to my arm and suddenly I felt this burning sensation/pain. It burned a 1 inch length, 1/2 inch width section of skin. This mark is more obvious.

4.) While in Israel I was followed by two Swedish men who thought I was from Yemen and asked my chaperons if it was possible they could buy me from my father. Thank god I hadn’t pissed the chaperons off.

5.) I won a Gwendolyn Brooks poetry contest when I was 13 years old for a poem I wrote titled “A Fragment of Eden”. It is supposedly in one of her publications. I never did find it.

6.) I didn’t learn to drive a car until I was 24. I never really needed one because of Chicago’s public transportation system and my dates always had cars.

7.) My mother and father were childhood sweethearts. Well at least teenhood sweethearts.

8.) My first name, Tiffiany, came from Tiffany’s jewelry store and my middle name, Dominique, came from a disco club that was in a Dean Martin “Matt Helm” film.

There you have it. 8 Random Things. Now I tag Mike Ambs, Clintus McGintus, Chris Brogan, Manda Walker, Zadi Davis , Steeve Woolf, Phil Campbell, and Bill Streeter. If you noticed I picked some heavy bloggers here and it’s for a reason. I would really like to know what these guys have to randomly say about themselves because they are awesome motivators. I truly think it would not only be interesting but I might learn why it is they are so awesome.

Bright Future

Here’s some info I thought was interesting. I also thought (and maybe it’s just my circle) that it was something that was somewhat overlooked because no one really talked about it. United Talent Agency and Spot Runner (online ad firm) has

joined forces to create 60Frames Entertainment, which had it’s launching on July 11th. The concept behind 60Frames is to finance professionally produced short form content on the web. I think this is exactly what many of the internet television producers and even some of the well produced video blogs may be looking for. The future of the independently produced internet tv/show providers and creators are looking really bright these days. I’m happy

SXSW 2008, Plan Ahead

Spring is still two maybe three seasons away but I think it’s around that time to start planning if you’re going to SXSW 2008. For all of you who do not know what the acronyms SXSW stands for, South by Southwest. It is a set of music, interactive, and film festivals and conferences that take place every spring in Austin, Texas. I have always wanted to go for the film conference and festival ever since I started film school at Columbia College Chicago. But after interacting with many of the blogger, podcasters, vloggers, and the media superstars who went last year I am now eager to attend the conference and festival for interactive media. I think it was at this event last year that the doors of Twitter swung wide open and I walked right in.

Click and scroll right over to the SXSW reservation page and start reserving your passes and making those reservations as to where you’ll be crashing. Of course, the earlier you register, the cheaper it will be. There are student passes but I think you have to choose between film or interactive media. I’m greedy I want them both, I may have to go for the gold. My schedules are tentative to school and finances due to a trip to go to Cabo San Lucas with some friends. So, you’re not alone. I need to start trying to arrange plans so I can be there.

I hope the same group that went last year intend to go as well. It looks as if they had a ball. Will I possibly see you there?
