A New Direction

I am on vacation this week and I am also helping a friend on their film. I came home for a couple of hours so I can receive something I’ve been waiting to come for about a week or so. I received my Canon XH-A1 and could not be more happy. It is the third video camera that I now own, with the other two being a Sony VX2100 and a Canon Elura 100.

My two digital video cameras

But at the same time I have become reflective with a bit of anxiety. Why is this? Because the purchase of the camera was a step toward me making things happen in the world of vlogging, Internet filmmaking/TV, and filmmaking in general. I am a writer/screenwriter/filmmaker. If you noticed filmmaking is at the end and that’s there for a reason. I have always been somewhat afraid of directing or producing my own work. Not because I have a strong belief that I couldn’t do it but because I am a perfectionist. As a screenwriter you really must learn that perfection is not your main objective but the completion of your story. It’s then when you deal with the rewrites. Well, I always thought that directors and cinematographers never truly had that luxury because of time and money. But now that digital filmmaking is coming to the forefront, I don’t know if that statement washes anymore. Now we’re back to me. I have a chance here to try and make art with all the ideas in my head and I have decided to do that. Even if it starts out as a montage of scenes. I have had the chance to communicate with some great people over the Internet, Clint “Clintus Mcgintus” Comer, Chris Brogan, Steve Woolf, Zadi Davis, Michael Ambs, and that’s just to name a few. Most conversations were through constant emails and IMing, others just complimenting them on the great work that they are doing on the Internet. At this time I’m at my friend’s film shoot and I am so proud of him for making it happen and that reminded me of how grateful I am to just know those I have named. And there are others who I have just met. I hope in the future to actually talk face to face with everyone and hopefully getting feedback on the work I have done. You guys are awesome and are a big motivation to me. And as Clintus would say Vlog On!.

  1. 1 Chris Brogan...

We’d better still be meeting in June. You should scrape together a few bucks or run a fundraising campaign or something, and sneak into Digital Hollywood with me. That might be mindblowing, in the good sense. It might give you the butt-kick you need. : )

And if not, let’s hang out at some point before that big rockstar party you’re going to with me, and we can shoot *something* just to make it fun and entertaining for a bit.

    Sound cool?

I’m waiting for your first videoblog, which are officially good places to be “scratchpad” while you ready yourself for a good production. Have you SEEN my crappy videoblog?. Sheesh.

    Vlog on, indeed.

Hey, another thing. I’m looking at all the people in your MyBlogLog sidebar. There are TONS of videobloggers in there. So jump in, kid. You’ve already got a community supporting you.
